Jason Sion Mokhtarian is Neuman Professor in the Department of Near Eastern Studies at Cornell University. His research focuses on rabbinic literature, the Talmud in its Sasanian context, ancient magic and medicine, Iranian studies, Judeo-Persian, and the history of the Jews of Persia. Research languages include Hebrew and Aramaic, as well as Old, Middle, and New Persian. He is the author of Rabbis, Sorcerers, Kings, and Priests: The Culture of the Talmud in Ancient Iran and Medicine in the Talmud and coeditor of Aramaic Incantation Bowls in Their Late Antique Jewish Contexts. He is also a co-editor of the Olamot Series at Indiana University Press, which translates innovative books by Israeli scholars on a range of topics in Jewish Studies. The son of Jewish emigrants from Tehran, Professor Mokhtarian grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and was educated at the University of Chicago and University of California, Los Angeles.
